V Appl #11-18P, Site Plan Modification, TOSW Batting/Pitching Facility, Ayers Road Planning Department Report 1. Request for site plan modification for a 25' x 50' batting/pitching facility at the Little League fields at Ayers Road, A-20 zone. 2. Architectural and Design Review Committee reviewed this application on May 21. While they were not excited about the metal building, they acknowledged that it is a utilitarian building for a utilitarian use. The ADRC had the following recommendations: - the facility should be painted with some neutral color such as tan or beige; - additional landscaping should be coordinated between Sup't of Parks and the Town Planner; - the applicant should explore some way to secure the facility in the off- season. 3. There is no new lighting shown proposed with this project. If this application is approved, the Planning Dept has no requested approval modifications. LA - _ G L l — tie V South Windsor Little League Proposed Covered Batting Cage Project ,jam ® January 2011 • For the past year, the South Windsor Little League Board of Directors has been discussing the need to improve its batting training facilities to meet the needs of its players. On a typical evening during the spring season, there are at least 6 to 8 teams of 12 players each that need to use the existing batting cages (2). During the summer season, the batting cages are used by All Star teams, visiting District 8 teams and the Summer Baseball program. The proposed batting cage project would benefit approximately 600 - 700 registered players in the league. In reviewing the need for improved facilities, we discussed the merits of having a covered facility. It would allow for would practices during inclement weather and would offer the possibility of extending practices after it gets dark earlier in the afternoon during the spring and fall seasons. This idea expanded from covering the existing cages to keeping those (2) as they currently are and adding the covered facility next to them, giving the league a total of (4) batting cage lanes. The proposed batting cages would be situated parallel to the existing batting cages as shown x in the photo to the left.
