Our hardship is caused by the character of our property, specifically the large trees. The shape of the parcel, i.e. as a corner lot, also creates a hardship because each frontage requires the same 40' setback. The problem begins in early spring. We have (5) 80-ft. oak trees with large canopys which extend over the parking areas of our driveway. As a result, from the beginning of April until the end of July any vehicle left within a 50 ft. radius of the trees for more than five minutes receives a coating of sap as well as bird droppings. As September rolls in the leaves begin to slowly fall. Because the trees are oak, the leaves are very acidic therefore if left on the vehicle for any length of time, they begin to eat into the paint of all our vehicles. By the end of fall we now contend with very, very large migration of black birds which continually pirch in the oak canopys. There may be up to 1000 birds in the trees at any given time. As a result, a freshly washed vehicle lasts only a matter of minutes until it is pasted again with bird droppings. As a result of this constant cycle of abuse, the paint on our vehicles suffer tremendously. Now that both of our children have reached the driving age we have five vehicles and two garages with no hope in sight of decreasing the number of vehicles; but in fact increasing them. Snowmobiling is a sport for the entire family. Section 4.1.4(f), restricting the size of garages, does not take account of the growth in the popularity of recreational vehicles. Another hardship we encounter is trying to house our snowmobiles and trailers. With all the vehicles in the driveway there is no room for the trailers therefore we must back them across our lawn and park them under pine trees doing damage to the lawn as well as no protection from the pine sap, theft or vandalism, let alone the cluttering of our yard. We are seeking the lower level of the garage to store the trailers and snowmobiles as well as 'unclutter' the yard. Our final hardship is in the winter. With three vehicles left in the driveway, it becomes a juggling and shuffling act before our plow contractor arrives and risk injury from falls. We believe that this hardship is unique to our property because most lots are not on a corner and do not have trees of the size that ours are. The hardship is also not self created because they have existed since the lot was created. The hardship is also not financial, as this is our home and the protection of our vehicles is not a matter of profit or loss.
