283 BURNHAM STREET-EAST HARTFORD,CT.06108
OFFICE-860-528-9070 ---- 800-282-7224 FAX-860-528-7611
The property at 260 Chapel Rd., is 4.5 acres but only has 96 feet
of frontage on any main road The town ordinance requires that the
fence around the building be slatted making our actual building
almost obscure from Chapel Rd. except for the top of the building.
At the top of the building we will be installing an illuminated sign
against the building on the west side that faces Rt. 5. This sign
however is only visible when you are traveling south on Rt. 5. It
will not be clearly visible when traveling north on Rt. 5 or from
Chapel Rd. which runs in front of our building. We would like to
put another illuminated sign against the building on the south side
of the to of the building. This will make it visible p g sable for people
traveling north on Rt. 5. The previous owners had their signs on
both sides of the top of the building which we noticed when we
were originally looking at the building. Because we are a truck
tire center, we feel that it is extremely important for our building to
be properly identified. We have trucks and tractor-trailers of
various sizes that come to our location during the day when it is
light out and during the winter months when it is dark out in the
late afternoon. It is important that we be visible from both
directions so that the trucks and tractor-trailers are not traveling
up and down Rt. 5 looking for our building and then turning
around and possibly slowing down traffic in order to locate us.
Our actual building is located 250 feet from the road with only a
96-foot driveway entrance that is located on Chapel Rd. The
telephone pole and the pole from the U-Storage sign (which towers
way above our sign) tends to obstruct the view of our free standing
sign by the driveway on Chapel Road. We have such a limited
amount of frontage on Chapel Rd., such a very long driveway, and

Re: Appl. #2443-99—Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc., d/b/a GCR Truck Tire Center, 260 Chapel
Road, I zone.
Dear Mr. Greeno:
At the meeting of the South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals held on September 23, 1999, the Board
approved your request for two variances to section 17.8.8: 1)to allow a second building sign 110 sq. ft.
(one building sign allowed); and 2) a free standing sign 50 sq. ft. (24 sq. ft. allowed) at 260 Chapel Road,
I zone.
The Board concluded the hardship to be the location of the building setback on the property and the poor
visibility of the building from Rte. 5 and Chapel Road make the signs necessary.
Any new building, or alteration/additions to existing buildings, requires a building permit prior to start of
construction.
These actions are effective upon your filing the enclosed form in the Town Clerk's Office at your own
expense.
Very truly yours,
arjorie thony, Chairperson
Zoning Board of Appeals `J
