We request approval for a variance for the following reasons: 1. Since 1992, Charlie has been employed by Universal Computer Services, of Houston, Texas, as their Connecticut area Field Technician. Therefore, our third bedroom has been used in part as an office. We are planning to have another child and will need to utilize that room for its originally intended purpose. 2. When we built our home in 1993, we were unable to afford a home larger than 1400 square feet. At that time, JMJ Construction, the builder, informed us that the homes in our neighborhood could go up to 1600 square feet and therefore, we would have the ability to add on at some time in the future. 3. Based upon Redfield development guidelines, we received approval from the Homeowner's Association Board of Directors to begin construction of our addition. To prepare for construction, we removed our deck, which stood where the addition would be built. We love the Town of South Windsor and choose to live here because of the excellent school system and close knit community. We are fortunate to live in a neighborhood where the people are friendly and watch out for their neighbors, providing us with an extra sense of security. This, coupled with the reasons stated above, is why we are petitioning your approval to add on to our home. The Board concluded the hardship to be the following: 1. The regulation restricts sizes of the homes and was utilized by the developer and not available to the individual homeowners. 2. Total square footage will not exceed 1600 square feet, therefore, the applicant is complying with the intent of the Planning &Zoning Commission and what was approved for many of the units. Any new building, or alteration/additions to existing buildings, requires a building permit prior to start of construction. These actions are effective upon your filing the enclosed form in the Town Clerk's Office at your own expense.
