Applicant: (Signature) OWNER: (Signature) Approved: Denied: Revised 12/04/98 + M 220 Laurel St. The primary driving force behind this request for variance is the likelihood of having elderly parents join us in the near future. Given our desire to accommodate this reality, my wife and t began to investigate ways to expand our current living quarters. We have lived at 220 Laurel for 10 years this June and have expended much money and effort into increasing the value and maintain inglimproving the structure and grounds. We are committed to staying here. My wife and 1, as well as our &year old son and 6-year old daughter are all actively involved in SW recreational activities- either as coaches or participants. Given the option of maintaining our house and property for the short-term or for the long-term betterment, we consistently opted for the long-term, We installed full casing windows with replaced insulation rather than simply installing replacement which would have been considerably less expensive. Same goes for siding the house rather than painting it or letting it peel. We have removed nearly a dozen trees on the property, making it more useful for us and more appealing as a piece of property in the neighborhood. The request for variance is based on the concept of maintaining or bettering the property, not by `sticking out' or in some other way detracting from the property and surrounding neighborhood, As the attached petitions indicate, property owners who would be directly affected by this variance have show their support for this venture. Nobody has voiced any concerns or reservations. Due to the unusual lot we live on, we have no other choice but to expand toward Oak St. as shown. We have only two feet on the other side of the house because we are 12 feet from the property line. With this proposal, twenty feet of space will remain between the street and the garage. Given the nature of the neighborhood, this will not detract from anything. The hardship is the inevitability of caring for aging parents. We have no choice other than seek this variance and request that you give every consideration to accommodating this request. fog Mor [.PAPUM SLY o I Lo-r t4 A s c k -v PRoPOSE8 rX86 , v\ 00 v p a. Bassilakis, 220 Laurel Street, A-20 zone Dear Mr. & Mrs. Bassilakis: At the meeting of the South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals held on March 7, 2002, the Board approved your request for a 20' variance to section 10.2 to allow a proposed two car garage 20' from the property line, A-20 zone. The Board concluded the hardship on the property to be as follows: 1. The way the house is situated on the property makes it impossible to locate a garage in any other area on the property. 2. The house is positioned on a corner lot, which requires two front yard setbacks of 40', limiting the area that can be built. These actions are effective upon your filing the enclosed form in the Town Clerk's Office at your own expense. Very truly yours, K-jit"Li, (_ca,,i jL,-rl ll car Robert Warren, Chairman Zoning Board of Appeals RW:dr cc: Building Department r I, Robert Warren, Chairman of the South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals hereby certify that on March 7, 2002 the Zoning Board of Appeals granted to: John G. &Nancy W.
