Windsor, Connecticut Advanced Performance Glass(APG)is proposing to add a 5,000 S.F. addition to their building on Schweir Road. In addition to the building, there will be additional paved areas along the side and to the rear of the building. The developed areas of the site presently drain to two on-site catch basins that discharge to the Schweir Road drainage system. The Schweir Road drainage system drains to the south to the large wetlands area on the proposed S. Windsor Technology park site. The proposed development will add approximately 0.21 AC. of impervious coverage. The rear area of the site has been used in the past for storage, and parts of the area are hard packed earth. Due to the soils on the site and the shallow groundwater, infiltration of runoff into the soils is not possible. Assuming the rear area presently has a runoff coefficient of 0.5 (packed gravel type base), and a proposed runoff coefficient of 0.9 (paved), the additional 0.21 Ac. of impervious coverage will result in an increase in runoff of 0.5 CFS for a 10 year design storm. The proposed 15"pipe on site to be installed at 0.5% slope has sufficient capacity to handle the runoff from the site. There will be an insignificant increase in runoff from the site. The increase in runoff will be mitigated down stream in the large wetlands area that this area drains to. Standard erosion controls have been designed to be used during construction including silt-fencing down-slope of disturbed areas, and around topsoil stockpiles. Due to the relatively small-disturbed area, and the gradual grades on the site, erosion is not expected to be a problem.
