Patria Road CONSERVATION COMMISSION
S. Windsor, CT
AMK Welding is proposing a 7,200 S.F. addition onto their existing building on Patria
Road. As part of the proposed expansion, additional parking will be provided. The
development will disturb a small wetland area on the site. For mitigation, approximately
4,420 S.F. of wetland mitigation area is proposed.
The developed areas of the site presently drain to 3 on site catch basins/drywells. The
front two catch basin/drywell structures appear to be connected via a pipe, and appear to
be connected also to the existing storm drainage system within Patria Road. Under
developed conditions, there will not be any increase in runoff to the Patria Road storm
drainage system.
The proposed development will result in an increase on the site of approximately 0.26
AC. of impervious coverage. Assuming a change in runoff coefficients of 0.6 from
existing to developed, and a 5-minute time of concentration, the peak increase in runoff
for a 10-year design storm would be 0.97 CFS.
The storm runoff from the site will be directed into a settling basin, and Swale and then
discharge to the proposed mitigation area. The mitigation area will provide natural
detention and mitigation of the runoff from the site. The mitigation area is immediately
adjacent to a large wetland area, and the runoff will gradually enter this larger wetland
area.
The settling basin will provide an area for larger sediment to settle out prior to entering
the swale and mitigation area, and also decrease the velocity of runoff entering the swale.
Standard erosion controls have been designed to be used during construction including
silt-fencing down-slope of disturbed areas, and around topsoil stockpiles. Due to the
relatively small-disturbed area, and the gradual grades on the site, erosion is not expected
to be a problem.
