A 30-minute time of concentration was used for the runoff calculations for existing
conditions. The adjacent Finnegan Electric Property was included in all calculations. This
is due to common drainage usage. A 24-minute time of concentration was used for the
runoff calculations for the proposed conditions. The calculations include fully developed
adjacent lots 31 & 34 draining through drainage easements to rear yard drains.
Conclusions
More than sufficient capacity will exist in the system to handle a 10 year+ storm.
Introduction
The Finnegan site is approximately 1.4± acres located on the south west side of
Commerce Way in South Windsor, Connecticut. The Windsor Steel site is 2.49±located
across from the Finnegan site separated by a common driveway.
Under existing conditions, the sites drain to the north west side of the property.
The proposed improvements to the Finnegan site include the construction of a
Office/warehouse with parking for 16 vehicles, and a storm water management system.
The proposed improvements to the Windsor Steel site include office, manufacturing, and
warehouse with parking for 32 cars. Collection of storm water will be through a series of
catch basins connected to an existing drainage pipe adjacent to the properties. An existing
catch basin will be changed to manhole at the rear of the property, a doghouse
manhole/catch basin will be added along the common driveway between properties, and a
doghouse manhole will added behind the Windsor Steel property. Storm water detention
is provided by a common detention area which is part of the Industrial park. The system
has been sized to handle additional future runoff when lots 31 & 34 are developed.
Methodology
Both the Rational & SCS method were used to determine 2, 10, 25, 50 and 100
year storm discharges for pre-existing. The rational method was used proposed
conditions.
Triangular hydrographs were generated and flood routed through the designed
detention basin and storage by the use of the Storage Indication Method of flood routing.
