Hesketh and Associates 101 Millstone Common Bloomfield, CT 06002 RE: South Windsor Post Office South Windsor, CT Dear Mr. Hesketh: I am writing to report the results of my wetland delineation at the referenced site. The work was conducted according to the requirements of the CT Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Act(P.A. 155). Wetlands are defined as areas of poorly drained,very poorly drained, floodplain, and alluvial soils, as delineated by a soil scientist. Watercourses are defined as bogs, swamps, or marshes, as well as lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, etc., whether natural or man-made, permanent or intermittent. Watercourses may be delineated by any competent professional. The wetlands were delineated by walking across the parcel in question on September 26 and September 30, 1997, and examining the upper 20" of the soil profile with a spade and auger. Those areas meeting the requirements noted above were marked with pink plastic flagging tape numbered WL 1-9, 10-17, 18-26, and 27-60. The wetland soil map units are Scantic(Sc) silt loam and Aquents(AQ). The Scantic series is a fine-grained, poorly drained, mineral soil developed over glacio-lacustrine silts and clays. It has a seasonal high water table at approximately 0-8" below the surface in the fall, winter, and spring. Aquents is a miscellaneous land type used to denote disturbed areas which have a seasonal high water table near the surface, and aquic soil moisture regime, and support, or have the capacity to support hydrophytic(wetland)vegetation. These areas have been cut, filled, or graded so that the original soil profile can no longer be discerned. The Buxton series is a fine-grained,moderately-well drained mineral soil developed over glacio-lacustrine silts and clays. The seasonal high watertable is at about 10-20" in the fall,winter, and spring. The Elmwood series is a moderately-well drained soil developed in sandy strata overlying glacio-lacustrine silts and clays. The seasonal high watertable is at about 12-20" in fall, winter,and spring. Udorthents is a miscellaneous land type used to denote moderately well to well drained areas where the land has been so disturbed by cutting, filling, or grading that the original soil profile can no longer be discerned.
