I am happy to do this. As a Gerontol- ogist and as a Therapeutic Recreation Director, I believe that it is important and extremely beneficial to carry on intergenerational programming for the community of elders at the South Windsor Nursing Center. This type of program- ming is also beneficial to the young people of Ms. O'toole's school as it exposes them to a special group of individuals whom they might not otherwise have the opportunity to meet. Of the three dance schools in South Windsor, Ms. 0' Tooles is the only dance school which has displayed inter- est in providing programming to the South Windsor Nursing Center. To my knowledge, for the past three years Ms. O'toole has contacted my department and set up performances twice yearly. She and her students provide wonderful entertainment for the residents. Most importantly, however, the giving of their time and themselves is a special gift to our residents, a gift which touches them deeply. If I can provide any further information, please con- tact me. We are writing to advocate that Ms . O'Toole be allowed to maintain her operation at that site . We are parents of 2 children who utilize her dance school . From our going to her school each Saturday, we can see nothing about her school which disrupts the other tenants or interferes with the original intent of Bissell Commons . In fact, what has happened is that we have now become aware of the other businesses in that complex. Also, Ms . O'Toole should not be penalized for what appears as a mistake on the part of the landlord who had the inpression that the space was utilized according to code . She has put much time and money into customizing her space into an attractive dance school . If she is forced to leave, Ms . O' Toole will likely have to leave town, and numerous families will lose her much appreciated talent and years of devotion to citizens of South Windsor . Karen O'Toole has also used her dance company to provide a human service to local citizens . Particularly, she has given several performances to patients at South Windsor Convalescent Home, and without charge . Again, we ask that you rule in Karen O'Toole ' s favor .
