Admiral Moving & Storage would like to relocate an old sign ( 4ft letters
61 feet long) to another section of the same building facade. The building has
varying heights, and is 40 feet deep and 435 feet long The purpQaP of thia_Pffort
will be to al Tmprove the aesthetics of the sign and building by reP1a(-inq the
old multi-colored letters "Admiral Self-Stor" with new dark blue letters which will
read "Admiral Moving & Storage"; b) Tdentifv the parent copalnv_rather than the
self-stor operation; c) . Improve sign visibility from I-291 by placing it higher
on the facade d1yniminish visibility of this sign from Route 30 traffi in front of the
premises ( in the new location it will be blocked from view by the office/warehouse
_ building and abutter's potato warehouse) while enhancing long-distance_visibility.
Our hardship lies in that the current zoning regulations refer to a :nt
section (10.5) . and the other applicable section 6 1 5 7 does not provide for relocation
and improvement of an existing non conforming sign This hardship is unique to
this property. The sign will not be any larger than the present sign and will
certainly be more attractive.

RE: ZBA Application #2104-93 - Admiral Moving & Storage
420 Ellington Road
Dear Sirs :
At the meeting of the South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals held
on February 4, 1993, the Board denied without prejudice your
variance request to Section 6 . 1 .5 . 7 and 10. 5 of the Zoning
Regulations to allow relocation of a sign, 244 sq. ft. in area,
to another part of the building facade at 420 Ellington Road, I
Zone.
The reasons for denial were as follows : The Board felt that
additional information regarding specifics for the exact location
of the new sign, exact specifications as to the height of the
sign, distance from the road and a drawing should be submitted to
show the proposed appearance of the sign. In addition, the Board
requested a further definition as to the hardship that exists on
the property in question.
Very truly yours,
Robert W. Warren, Chairperson
Zoning Board of Appeals
