ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS REQUEST FOR VARIANCE
The Dynamic Controls Building is located on the NE corner of Nutmeg
Road South and Pleasant Valley Road. The existing Town of South
Windsor Zoning Regulations, para. 4. 4 . 3 would permit approximately
a 1300 Sq. Ft. sign affixed to the building, based upon the
regulation allowance of 3 Sq. Ft. for each linear foot of building
frontage. The code permits only one 12 Sq. Ft. sign, however, if
the sign is not affixed to the building. Because of its corner
location, it would require signs on both the Nutmeg Road South and
Pleasant Valley sides of the building in order to be seen by
visitors driving South on Nutmeg Road, or East or West on Pleasant
Valley Road.
Dynamic Controls has gone to considerable expense to improve the
outside appearance of its building. We feel that a sign affixed to
the building would detract from the appearance. We are requesting
a variance therefore, to para. 4.4 . 3 of the Town of South Windsor
Zoning Regulations to permit installation of a triangular (three-
faced) sign with each side two feet by nine feet. The 21x 9' sign
boxes would be routed out to form letters reading "DYNAMIC CONTROLS
CORPORATION" , with the address 118 NUTMEG ROAD SOUTH" underneath in
small letters. The sign body would be black and the letters would
be white with backlighting. The sign bodies would be supported by
three metal posts which would position the sign bodies,
approximately 24" above the ground. Low growing landscaping would
be planted around the base of the sign. The sign would be
positioned so that one of the three faces would be easily readable
when approaching from the North on Nutmeg Road or from the East or
West on Pleasant Valley Road.
The sign would enhance the appearance of the property and would be
architecturally pleasing.

Dear Madam/Sir:
Re: Application #2012-91
At the meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals held on December 5,
1991, a variance was granted to Section 6 . 1 . 5 . 7 of the zoning
regulations to allow a second sign to be a three sided backlighted
sign with each side 2 ' x 9 ' mounted at ground level on property
located at 8 Nutmeg Road South, I zone. The following conditions
apply to the approval of this application:
1 . The sign has to comply with 50' sight line on corner lots as
documented and lights have to be turned off at midnight.
The hardship placed with this appeal is that truckers coming in from
out of state have a difficult time in finding unlighted building.
This action is effective December 5, 1991 and upon your filing of the
enclosed form in the Town Clerk's office at your own expense.
Very ruly yours,
Ro ert W. Warren, Chairman
Zoning Board of Appeals
