ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
TOWN OF SOUTH WINDSOR,CT SOUth Windsor
PJ-411 4g & Zoning Commissf(w
Respected Board Members:
Please accept my apology for the mistakes and general lack of information contained in our
initial ZBA application submittal concerning the proposed freestanding sign on Sullivan
Avenue for the World Gym. I would ask that you accept this blueprint as an additional
submittal for the reason of clarification of detail.
As brought to light during the ZBA meeting of Thursday, February 7, 1991,this sign is
requested in addition to two existing wall signs, making the proposed freestanding sign the
third. Also, the proposed sign is 24 sq.ft. in area, 12 sq.ft.greater than code,
section 4.4.3.
The sign will be internally illuminated(both cabinets) using U.L. listed and labeled
electrical components. Lamps to be cool white fluorescent type. In reading the sign code
for South Windsor I find that this type of illumination appears to be acceptable.
An internally illuminated sign does not seem to be out of context for this section of
Sullivan Avenue,RE: Dairy Mart,Ann's Plaza,Sunoco, and a little further up the street
in both directions,Petersen's Hardware, Mr.Sparkle and Battiston's.
We ask that you would approve this sign as requested. The owners of World Gym desire to
continue doing business in South Windsor, but to do this they feel that the additional
exposure this sign will afford is absolutely necessary.
Respectfully yours,
1411

RE: ZBA Application #1634-91
Dear Mr . Gagnon :
At the meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals held on March 7,
1991, a variance was granted to Section 4 .4 . 3 of the Zoning
Regulations to allow a third sign (24 s . f . ) , free standing to be
located as specified on the map submitted, on property located at 15
Morgan Farms Rd . (GC Zone)
The board noted the hardship to be because the building is set far
back from the road and due to the speed of traffic on Sullivan
Avenue, this additional sign is needed to help customers find the
gym.
The following condition will apply:
1 . The sign will not be permitted to remain illuminated when
business ,i4ri-7not in operation . The sign should be litf during
business hours only.
This action is effective upon your filing of the enclosed form in
the Town Clerk's office at your own expense.
Very truly yours,
Robert Warren
Chairman
