On July 27, 1989, in Application #1453-89, the South Windsor Zoning Board of Appeals
approved a variance request to allow a "GoodLube sign not to exceed 12 square feet with
a maximum height of 4j feet." The sign which was approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals
on July 27, 1989 was much smaller in size than had been requested by the applicant. The
applicant proceeded to erect the sign as approved by the ZBA on July 27, 1989. However,
the sign, as approved, was not large enough to properly identify the business on the
property and to mark the entrance to the property. The applicant requests the variance
be amended to allow a sign of 24 square feet with a height not to exceed 6 feet above
ground elevation. The requested sign is in character with and consistent with the signs
normally associated with this type of business and the signs which exist in the area. The
applicant claims hardship in that a 12 square foot sign is not large enough to adequately
identify the existence and location of the business. A sketch of the requested sign is
attached to this application.
