It is one of the four original 17th century houses still standing on Old Main Street. The architectural importance of this structure is most significant to New England and certainly to South Windsor's history.of building. In placing an appropriate and architecturally correct addition onto the original structure only a few options are acceptable and workable or will not effectively alter the integrity of the building. First, the addition must be placed onto the back of the existing two-story ell and should be gable pitched, shed roofed, or gambrel. The placing of an addition at either side of the main house would destroy the important features of this classic piece of architecture. In approximately 1780 a gambrel roofed addition was in place at the back of the current house. We wish to replace it in accordance with photographs of it which we still have showing the structure. Since property was sold off from this original piece of land prior to zoning and since the last piece of land sold from this parcel left less than the minimum zoning requirement for back yard, we are left with this problem. We want to replace the addition to where it originally stood, but too much of our back lot was sold off before zoning was approved. 1. To build in keeping with the architectural integrity of the original house any addition should be placed at the back of the existing house only. 2. The boundaries were drawn incorrectly to current zoning requirements and sold off as such prior to zoning. All that certain piece or parcel located at the northeasterly corner of the inter- section of Main Street and Strong Road in the Town of South Windsor, shown on a map en- titled "Map for Judson A. & Kathleen B.
