The applicants are the owners of Terry Office Park with an existing
restaurant. The original plans called for a restaurant to be located
on the northerly side of the building. The restaurant was subsequently
changed to the southerly side of the building and when the applicants
applied for an addition to the restaurant, it was discovered that the
restaurant is within 500 feet of property owned by the Calvery Church on
Buckland Road. The restaurant is operating with interior booths, kitchen,
etc. , and it would be an extreme hardship to relocate the business. The
applicants have also filed an application with Planning and Zoning for
_approval of a 14 foot solarium type addition to assist the restaurant in
the use of light, heat and seating regulations , and to improve the
quality of the restaurant.

Re: Application No. 1665-86 John Samsel and Theresa
Samsel, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor request a
variance to S Section 3 . 12 . 1 of the zoning regulations
ZR to allow for the sale of alchoholic liquor on a lot
within 500 feet of property reserved for church use at
property located on the westerly side of Buckland Road
known as the Terry Office Park (RC zone)
Gentlemen:
We request that the zoning regulations Section 3 . 12 . 1 be
upheld. We support the need for restraint and restriction
pertaining to the sale and consumption of alchoholic
beverages .
Present regulations have determined a limit and to
compromise that position would encourage leniency and
surrender of principle.
We as a church body and also the Zoning Board of Appeals
Commission have an opportunity today to make a statement
that addresses the issue of problem drinking and the
consequences that affect our youth as well as the
community as a whole.
Very truly yours,
Kenneth L. Gustafson
