Gantick, Director of Public Works V) 'r,- The B 5,,klutzvX7 1 ci;l Th Town of Bright n, New York, had a problem. This suburb of Rochester, with 141 miles of streets to be maintained through Western New York winters, was losing up to five percent of its road salt every year through exposure to the elements. To solve the problem, the town fathers and their advisors created a set of performance specifications for their ideal salt storage facility, which was to be rectangular, able to store at least 2,000 tons, and include a 30-foot clear height to allow salt to be dumped inside the building. Working with the town, the engineering firm of Orfi and Underhill developed a new and superior design for a radically different storage facility-not just for salt, but for a myriad of materials. Known as the HI Arch Gambrel;" the system is ecologically sound, The Hi-Arch Gambrei's`M patented truss system extremely flexible, and cost efficient; it offers storage potential which is permits easy access for fully extended trailer beds. innovative and a dramatic improvement over existing designs. Think what that will mean in terms of time and labor savings as well as improved employee morale. Clearly, you'll experience a safer working environment and enhanced worker productivity. The Hi-Arch Gambrel'"" is a winner in today's cost-conscious climate. Your payback period will be greatly reduced because of: less wear and tear on equipment; elimina- tion of salt loss from wind, moisture, and double handling; elimination of frozen, lumpy salt; reduced payroll;and reduced exposure to risk. The structure also addresses I environmental concerns by preventing leaching of materials into the soil and ground water. The proposal will not encroach upon the regulated wetlands area, and will not be disturbing over 20,000 sq ft therefore a IWA/CC permit was not required. 4. The site is well sheilded from the view of the public by the trees along West Road. There is no landscaping proposed, however, with the last application of the town, the recycling center, the commission required additional plantings to be recommended by the tree warden to be planted as close tot he site as possible. They have not been planted to date, however they will be planted when the recycling center gets built. If this application is approved, the planning department has no modifications to be requested.
