Iazzetta, Town Engineer RE: Savings Bank of Manchester A ( \_J _ We have reviewed the drawings dated May 10, 1989 and the attached drainage calculations for the proposed Savings Bank of Manchester project and have the following comments: Drainage Calculations 1 . The system proposed is a "recharge" system. With no backup as to the ability of the soil to absorb the storm water runoff, we cannot approve the system. The soils data for test hole #3 shows trace mottling at 23 inches below the surface which would seem to indicate a poor situation for this system. 2 . C factors used need to be detailed as to how they were derived. Key Map 1 . This does not show all of the existing development in the shopping center. Topographic Plan 1 . Boring Data for hole #3 only goes to 50 inches below surface - why wasn't ground water determined? A recharge system is proposed and the location of groundwater would seem to be a critical item. 2 . Sanitary sewer pipe size and type should be determined by the engineer not pump manufacturer. 3 . Pipe from basement sump should be determined by the engineer not pump manufacturers . 4 . How was length of 24" perforated pipe determined? 5 . "Sump Pump Flow Elevation = 105 .5" note on drawing has arrow pointing to intersection of lines for sanitary and basement sump. Which line is this flow line for? 6 . Yard drain has note "to be connected to sump pump system" . This should be connected to the regular storm drainage system for this site. Marcia A. Banach RE: Savings Bank of Manchester Detail Sheet 1 . Perforated Pipe detail - dimensions are required from edge of pipe to define size of 2" diameter stone enclosure. 2 . Detail is required for pavement section. Note #14 indicates 2" bituminous concrete and 8" processed stone base, this appears to be inadequate due to the site conditions and the proposed usage. 3 . Detail required for sidewalk showing expansion joints, etc. Also note 16 indicates 6" processed stone base, 8" minimum is Town standards . 4 . Yard drain detail doesn't match conditions shown on plans. Also this should not be a PVC structure. Note says "Flow line as specified see plan" . The plan does not indicate this information. Also the size and type of pipe out of this structure is not indicated either on this detail or the plan. General Comments 1 . There should be only one construction entrance. 2 . Construction notes should address the sweeping of the existing parking lot - possibly on a daily basis . With the above comments and reservations, the Engineering Department cannot recommend approval until all of the above have been satisfactorily rectified. JCl/jsv cc: Michael J.
