W enjoy njoy a residential zone and feel this zone change to commercial would only be the start of more requests and endanger our residential way of life here on Buckland Road in the near future. We feel there would only be an increase of traffic with people coming and going to this village. As Mr. Krawski states, we al- ready have "10,000 Cars & Trucks" a day traveling our road, which is already a tremendous aggravation. We have been through all this with the Buckland Commons, and the zoning board should know by now just how our neighborhood feels regarding a commercial zone. Yours truly Sandra A. Rice James -J. Rice 9 r- Buck 1 and Road South Windsor, CT February 5, 1982 Attention: Town Planner, Peter De Mallie In answer to the open letter by Mr. Krawski, my response is no. The reasons for rejecting this zone change in 1970 and 1972 still exist. Converting the land from AA30 residential to General Commercial would leave._ i_ area open to any kind of commercial development, if Mr. Krawski doesn' t carry out his plan for a Colonial Village. Sectioning off a small parcel (8 acres) of this AA30 zone would also constitute "spot zoning". Very truly yours , Cr Rudolph G. Eliasson Mildred L. Eliasson ME:me ,71o,,,th 'Ionn. et--". February 12 , 1982 850 Ellington Road South Windsor, Ct. 06074 Mr. William Krawski Buckland Road South Windsor, Ct. 06074 Dear Bill: I am writing in FAVOR of your proposed project for an artisans' village in South Windsor. During the summer I visited the Shaker Village outside Pittsfield, Mass. , and although I was very impressed with the buildings and the literature about the Shakers and the way they lived and the inventiveness of their sect , I found the most interesting part of our visit was in the craftsmens ' areas. They employ a tin- smith and a Shaker basket maker who work on the premises. These people are young and have no connection with the Shaker religion but make copies of the items displayed in the Village as well as custom orders. I remember Sturbridge from several visits as a youngster and probably should go back to refresh my memory. But here 's hoping that I won't always have to drive as far. . . . I find the Zoning Board's rejection rather curious and especially now that the zoning for the mall has been seriously studied and graced (heavens only knows where we' ll end up with the lawsuits ? ) by the Board, there should be less concern about a mixed resi- dential, retail and multi-family dwelling proposal at your loca- tion. If I can lend assistance please let me know; I am not party-affiliated, but am a registered voter here in town and will be interested in your progress. If it is possible to assure that expansion would be done with the same degree of good taste, and control could be maintained over the type of activity, I would enjoy seeing him able to expand. What he is doing is quite excitina, but must be tightly controlled and not set a precedent for someone with less ability and concern for the Town. Certainly, he should also have the support of the most affected neighbors before approval is given. Sincerely_,. FROM: Betty Wolfe Sazinski, 574 Strong Rd. , So. Windsor, Ct. SUBJECT: Application of William J. Krawski, 130 Buckland Rd. , So. Windsor, Ct. for zone change from AA-30 to GC (General Commercial) on Buckland Road, So. Windsor, Ct. It is a long time to wait twelve (12) years for our town to give approval of Mr. Krawski ' s application for a zone chanqe in order for him to proceed to build an 18th Century Colonial Village on Buckland Road. Let us leave something to posterity to show there was a time when people were self-sufficient and did not ask the town, state or government for assistance by those who were able-bodied and took care of their own. If there is something that prohibits the Zoning & Planning Com- mission from approving the application then perhaps it is time some of those Rules and Regulations were changed. This is a fast crowing town and we cannot be a backward town. I am requesting that approval be granted for the zone chanqe from AA-30 to GC (General Commercial) . If there are any old wounds they should be healed by now, or whatever the differences were should have mellowed. Thank you for your attention and interest. bws cc: All Members & Alternates Phone: Home: 528-4957 - Office: 566-5461 November 16 , 1982 Town Planning & Zoning Commission Town Hall 1540 Sullivan Avenue South Windsor, CT Dear Members of the Commission: I would like to say a few words on behalf of Bill Krawski and his zone change request: So far, who can say his "village" is not a thing of beauty? Also, what he plans would be educational, preserving our heritage. The Krawski family is not a "fly-by-night" group of people that moved into South Windsor to make a few fast bucks and then leave the town with a dead horse. They have been here for generations, making a contribution to their town. What if people said "no" to Sturbridge Village and Williamsburg? A great number of people would have been the losers.
