GENERAL COMMENTS
1. The outlet for exiting storm drain #54 should be
clarified. It appears to end at the property line along
Chapel Road on the Topographic Map.
2. The proposed storm drainage system has been analyzed for
only a 10-year storm. In addition, the Town requires
analyses of 2, 25, 50, and 100 year storm frequencies.
3. A construction sequence should be provided.
4. The detail of the proposed flow diffusor should include
gravel depths.
5. A minimum depth of cover should be designated on the
leaching trench detail.
6. The storm drainage calculations submitted should be
clarified. The information presented is unclear and should
contain a brief narrative summarizing discharges during pre-
and post-development conditions.

Re: Proposed Industrial Building
Chapel Road
Gentlemen: - South Windsor, Connecticut
On May 17, 1983 I observed test pits excavated at the above site. wBuckw
Page, Town of South Windsor, was also present. Core samples were taken for
permeability tests. Following are the results:
TEST HOLE #1
0-12' . Topsoil
12 34"/36" Very sandy subsoil
34"/36"-72" Clean medium sand (rapid caving of soil)
Water at 50" Rapid flow
Core sample #1 at 22"
Core sample #t4 at 38N
TEST HOLE *2
0-6 or Topsoil
6"-36" Very sandy subsoil
36"-60" Clean medium sand (rapid caving of soil)
Water at 37K
Core sample #2 at 18"
PERMEABILITY
Core l#1 .00015 feet/sec.
Core #4 .00079 feet/sec.
Core #2 .00015 feet/sec.
After discussion with Mr. Page, it was resolved that disposal of storm
water would be by using shallow galleys (18") (FLOWDIFFUSORS) with an
overflow pipe extended to the street line. At such time that storm sewers
are installed in Chapel Road, the overlfow would be connected to the line.
The office parking will be paved, while the balance of the parking and
storage area will be processed gravel and stone.
We will compute the total length of flowdiffusors and leaching trench
required to take care of a 10 year storm.
Beyond that, we will wait to hear from you before proceeding further_

RE: Eastern Roofing Company

South Windsor, CT
Dear Mr. Gantick:
The proposed storm system for this site has been revised with additional
flow diffusors and analysis of the system for 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100-year
storm frequencies are enclosed.
Please note that the existing system of flow diffusors was designed for a
10-year storm with an overflow pipe extended to the street line for a future
connection to storm sewers in Chapel Road at such time that they are provided.
The original system computations are also included herein.
A summary of the proposed storm system follows:
Permeability was based on core samples obtained on site:
Core #1 k = 0.00015 FT/SEC Dated May 17, 1983
Core #2 k = 0.00079 FT/SEC it
Core #3 k = 0.00015 FT/SEC if
Core #7 k = 0.0031 FT/SEC Dated September 20. 1988
Six new flow diffusors were added to the existing interconnected system for
a total of 12 flow diffusors interconnected by 8" perforated pipe in a
leaching trench.
Permeability (k) for the analysis of the proposed total system was prorated
as follows:
(6) original flow diffusors k used - 0.000146
(6) proposed flow diffusors k tested - 0.0031
(0.000146 x 6) + (0.0031 x 6)
12 = 0.001625

South Windsor, CT
11/11/88 Page 2
This (k) value was then reduced to approximate 2590-' as an added margin of
safety to:
k = 0.00046
The proposed system as analyzed is adequate to handle flows up to a 10-year
storm frequency with overflow occurring at 25, 50, and 100-year storm
frequencies.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call.
Sincerely,
